When you look straight at illusion knitting you see only stripes. In most other illusion knitting the stripes are either horizontal or vertical. For this butterfly we have combined illusion knitting with mitred knitting to create stripes in both directions. As far as we are aware this technique has never been used before.
When the butterfly moves, as it is being worn, or when you move round it, if it is hanging on a wall, the tracery of the butterfly goes in and out of view.
