The music of Spain has exercised an exotic fascination, but often in forms adapted by foreign composers. Theophile Gautier wrote this pieceinspired by his travels to Spain, and later set to music by Manuel de Falla.
Manola is a Spanish word meaning "lively Spanish working-girl".
I chose images of majas and flamenco, which are some of the best paintings by Singer Sargent, Cassat, Sorolla and Picasso. Philippe and Jerome Ducros complement one another admirably as usual. From Concierto de Granada.

  • Actually, I find Ducros to be a perfect accompanist for Jaroussky, and a fantastic pianist in his own right.

How they got to work together? They met at a festival someday and thought it would be fun. I think it turned out pretty good.
