STRATOS is a low budget short-term mission with the purpose of capturing images of space and earth at a terminal altitude of approximately 70,000 Ft. This initiative was inspired by a project called Icarus which successfully launched their own spacecraft and took pictures at near-space altitudes for less than $200. To visit their website please go to: http://space.1337arts.com/

Also, our eagerness to complete this project was fueled by the challenge that exists on launching a balloon in the Florida peninsula, especially in the south end of the state. We are happy to report that the Stratos I capsule landed within 6 miles of the predicted landing site.
