Another run of the new steam turbine, this time on steam. As hoped, extremely quiet. Previous runs of jet nozzle and of Teslajet turbine required ear plugs at a distance. This turbine is at normal voice level at a few feet, without balance and without steam to condenser noise suppression. So when finished the turbine will be extremely quiet.

Vibration noise (slightly out of balance rotor creating the buzzing sound) will go away when balanced, and steam leaking around bearings (loudest hissing sound) will disappear when seals are installed. Then, the system will be fully enclosed, steam will flow into condensor, so even that noise will be reduced from what is already at a normal speaking volume when close to the turbine.

Running on 150 psi steam, tripped the pressure release valve, and running around 15krpm using the 090 supersonic nozzle from previous nozzle and Schlieren tests. P inside housing is near zero, meaning, needs seals for higher torque. With that the power will come up into the 5kW range and alternator will be installed for power generation.

The turbine will generate electricity and heat (space and hot water heating) to serve as a 100 percent green, biomass fueled power system. Fuel can come from wood chips, other biomass, "wood" pellets from rice straw and other agricultural waste for a fully renewable home energy system, with ZERO net CO2 emissions.

  • Concentrated sunlight and pressure cooker can save you a lot of fuel go generate high pressure steam in day time.

  • Using a Tesla turbine in connection with a steam is basically wrong because you're mixing two technologies with very different properties making your system less efficient. The Tesla turbine has inherently very little torque and steam power is very torque efficient. An old fashion steam engine would be much more efficient than your system and deliver much more power from the fuel used.

  • steampunk 2.0 :D how easy is to build on my own such turbine, given that i would have access to i.e. a cad cutter so i can cut all the discs out of sheet metal if plans were somewhere online?

  • Where did you get the turbine? Can you post some links, I am looking to make a portable power generator that is steam powered.

  • I am so jealous

  • lovely!

  • COOL! Going to gen some electric power with it?

  • Very Cool....A+ wish I could come and see it
