Komodo National Park in Indonesia was founded in 1980 and was named a World Heritage Site as well as a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986. The park was founded to help with conservation efforts for the unique Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis). Since then conservation goals have grown to protecting its entire habitat, both marine and terrestrial. The Komodo National Park includes 1,817 square kilometers of amazing land and marine wild life, including the islands of Komodo, Rinca, Padar, and Gili Montagne and the waters that surround them. The most prominent land attraction on the Komodo Dancer LiveAboard cruise will be an encounter with the world's largest exotic lizard - the rare Komodo Dragon.
