Siskel and Ebert review the 1989 comedy film Weekend at Bernie's. Both of them did not like this film and didn't find it funny at all.

  • God I hate different opinions. Why cant everyone just like the same thing as me?

  • @MegaCriswell It's simple to see why Siskel and Ebert perfer Beavis and Butthead. Beavis and Butthead are funny leads; the leads in this film are completely boring and forgetable. I don't remember a single thing about these main characters.

  • @hailmary7283 right, as if Weekend at Bernie's was the pinnacle of 'screwball' comedy. Yet Ebert included Duck Soup, My Man Godfrey and Preston Sturges movies in his Greatest Movies list. He seems to be blind of the genre of screwball comedy altogether.

  • @rbrbran277 My girlfriend recently rented Out of Africa. It came out before she was even born. Weekend at Bernie's is a 'cultural icon'? A hyperbolic statement ,if I've ever heard one. Ghostbusters is a cultural icon of 80s movies. So is Raiders of the Lost Ark. Or Beverly Hills Cop. Weekend at Bernie's? Give me a fucking break. As for Siskel and Ebert, apparently they didn't like Out of Africa enough, because it wasn't on top ten lists for either.

  • We didn't see it, but I'm sure we can agree that they gave it two thumbs up.

  • I wonder if they liked the sequel

  • WaB is a terrible movie yet somehow it persists as a cultural icon. Think of all the serious movies of the 80s. I bet these two creamed when they saw "Out of Africa". Who even remembers drek like that these days? And everybody instantly recognizes WaB.

  • Even though these guys are great movie critics, they are unable to accept the genre of screwball comedy or stupid/absurd humor. This is one of those examples. It is a movie that sets out to be in this genre and never pretends to be something else. It is just one of those movies that is gonna be kinda silly and funny and meant to enjoy.

  • This is an example of what happens when two failed filmakers become critics. Lighten up fellas! This movie is really funny, Andrew McCarthy is great in the role. I still watch this movie from time to time for a laugh.

  • Wow, Mike Stoklasa is really losing his hair.

  • @Ruddteen Yes, because remakes always turn out so fucking great.
