  • After having played this video to our music teacher from Moscow Conservatoir, she was enraged by Sofronitsky's manner to BAM onto the second note and mess up the arpeggios. She says those mistakes are caused by overrated self-confidence and the willing to show off.

    Andrew, I think the matter is simpler and more complicated at the same time...

    No, Sofronitsky didn't show off intentionally, but one should understand that public preforming heightens intensity of expression. Poor recording technique doesn't reflect how this all sounded in a concert hall. Sometimes Sofronitsky wasn't perfect... ;) I also have to confess - not all Moscow Conservatory graduates are great musicians! ;) So, take these points into account and form your own opinion! ;)

  • What a wonderful piece and what a colorful performance! Sofronitsky's playing brought out a very special sense of intimacy and warmth.
