Out In The Streets - "Shangri-Las" - Peak Position;#53 in 1965

He don't, hang around, with the gang no more.
He don't do the wild things that he did before.

He used to act bad, Used to, but he quit it.
It make me so sad.
Cause I know that he did it for me.
(Yes he did now)
And I can see...(It's still in the streets)
His heart, out in the street.

(He don't, comb his hair, like he did before
He don't wear those dirty old black boots no more.)

But he's not the same, Somethin' about his kissin'
That tells me he's changed.
I know that something's missing inside.
(mumble mumble)
Somethin's died...(It's still in the streets)
His heart, out in the street.

He grew up on the sidewalk.
Streetlight shinin' above.
He grew up with no-one to love.
He grew up on the sidewalk.
He grew up running free.
He grew up and then he met me..

He don't, hang around, with the gang no more.
Gee, he doesn't smile like he did before.

I wish I didn't care.
I wish I'd never met him.
They're waitin' downstairs.
I know I've got to set him free
He's gotta' be... (Out in the street)
His heart is out in the street.

He don't hang around with the gang no more.
(Out in the street)
He don't hang around with the gang no more.
(Out in the street)
He don't hang around with the gang no more.
(Out in the street)

(fade out repeating)

  • The significance of this song to New York radio history deserves mention: It was the very last song played by 1010 WINS as a music station, by Johnny Holliday, prior to 8 P.M. on April 18, 1965. The next morning, April 19, WINS became an all-news station, which it remains today.

  • @Khultan Jeff Barry - Ellie Greenwich. legendary Brill Building composers.

Their next hits were all by Shadow Morton though.

  • @kennethj1956 You do realize these girls were under 18 and in their very late teens when they were together? These were songs about young girls exploring what they wanted and only dipping their toe into what life is really like.

  • Attracted to the "bad boy"; a girl trys to 'fix' him....now she don't like the fixed version.

This proves women don't know what they want; and men should just be men.

  • One of the best songs ever. Blondie recorded a great cover version.

  • okay u guys! lets talk about gorillaz on gorillaz videos!

  • @JoeyMondayRefused srry, i guess i hate it when ppl comment about jb or anything on gorillaz songs, so i'll keep gorillaz to myself. everybody has their own taste, so all music is good in the end.

  • Who wrote this stuff?

  • @Brent441 In the final verse, the lyric is "they're waitin down there, I know I've got to set him free (send him back)"

    :)
