if they would have destroyed the main computer, the computers in the missile bases would get the info that NORAD would be destroyed and would launch automatically

the WOPR quote is such a powerful message of the ideals of nuclear war and perhaps war its-self. due to mutually assured destruction, the only outcome is the total annihilation of everyone. the only way to survive(win) thermonuclear war.....is indeed NOT TO PLAY. love this movie!
