Texas laws are screwed up to begin with but police can search houses, vehicles and people with or without a warrant. Bounty Hunters can only if the people let them.
pretty late, but yes, they actually do have A LOT more authority than cops, since cops are "supervised"...bounty hunters do whatever the hell they can to get someone.
uhhh what in your right mind makes you think they have less authority?! Take a few criminal justice classes and you will see they really only have to abide by a few laws while cops have MANY more...they are considered civilians so they can enter buildings, businesses, etc without having to go through the process that cops have to. I know people in this business, there are seriously little rules.
Bounty Hunters are legal in the legal system. As far as having more authority than police I say no. The only thing they can arrest on is bail bond violations. If cops did whatever the hell they can to get someone we would have riots in the streets. In the day and age of lawsuits being a bounty hunter is a tricky thing. Dog does it well.
OK everyone disagreeing with me, just look it up, it's not that hard.
But it's not always the same in every state. Some states they have barely any rights at all, but most, they have more authority and are more efficient because they can work on one case at a time. It's pretty much like a citizens arrest, in which the citizen is allowed to do whatever (except hurt) to apprehend.
ok shadows, I live in Texas. This is what Texas law states regarding Bounty hunters: A person/private investigator may NOT wear, carry, or display any uniform, badge, shield, or other insignia or emblem that implies that the private investigator is an employee, officer, or agent of the federal government, the state, or a political subdivision of the state; OR enter a residence without the consent of the occupants. The bottom line is Bounty Hunting is dangerous dangerous dangerous.
