Are there any Mormons out there willing to stand up and account for the differing accounts of the first vision? Please don't say as one poster said that they are different for different audiences but they are harmonious. Ultimately, as Gordon Hinckley said that if the first vision be proven false than the entire religion is false (paraphrased). Is this what you are afraid of? Which was it: his bedroom or a grove, an angel or Jesus and the Father, and why was there no mention of it for years?
@jjrosenberg Can you detail for me the contradictory statements in the Bible about Christ's birth please. Talk about cherry picking. Smith's accounts vary on time, place, location, personage's visiting him, statements, etc. They are in no way harmonious with each other. The accounts vary for the audience I agree, but to suit the moment he was in, to further the deception. He just kept changing it as it made sense to deceive the people.
Joseph Smith horny con or a really really horny con. All of the mormons I have met were great people and after a little conversation they admit its just for tradition and community. They know the rest is BS.
I wish Mormons would research Cumorh and Curlooms and such like they research genealogies. They would flee in a week and LDS inc would be bankrupt in 2 weeks.
Oh, and how many accounts do we have about the life and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ? Don't we have even four Gospels in the Bible... Though there are many similarities in each of the Gospels, there are also many items that are found in one account only, making a study of ALL the accounts necessary. This applies to the accounts of the First Vision. There is no point in cherry picking and double standard. More importantly Ask God Himself sincerely in prayer if Joseph Smith saw what he said.
Joseph Smith's various accounts of the First Vision were targeted at different audiences, and had different purposes. Isolated statements in this video are taken out of context, leaving their original meaning distorted. When those accounts are read in full they actually show a remarkable degree of harmony between them. There is no real evidence that the early leaders of the LDS Church did not understand that the Prophet saw two Divine Personages during his inaugural theophany.
Just to let you know this whole video serie is a big distortion of the truth. If you want to hear what mormons have to say about this why Joseph Smith told about his vision more than once in different settings check this website: en.fairmormon(dot)org/First_Vision_accounts
