After uploading this story I got an e-mail from another activist, videographer Meg in Keene. She HAS just gotten a response from the jail superintendent. Quoted with permission:

"I attempted to speak with van wickler a few days ago to discuss setting up a video interview with kurt at the jail. although he wasn't in his office, i left a note, and he called me later that day (thursday). he was very courteous (as he has always been with me); however, i was a bit let down by his decision to never allow video cameras at the jail due the the fact that he has "been burned before".

during our discussion; however, he wanted me to know that he has received MANY calls from activists, and he stated he is not actively trying to ignore anyone. he said that many of the concerns addressed in the messages he has been receiving are concerns that he shares as well, and most of his time is being spent trying to correct the problems. he apologized for anyone feeling that he was ignoring them, and said he has intentions of returning the calls and answering the questions of those who have contacted him.

when i inquired about kurt's condition, he said that he had 2 medical staff members watching him round the clock, and a doctor had visited him within the past two days. i may be misquoting him here, but he stated something to the effect of, "i'm not a medical professional, so i can't say kurt is fine; however, i have been told by the doctors that he is in good condition." a few hours after that conversation, i visited kurt in jail. he was still in a wheelchair, and the left side of his face shows very little movement in comparison to the right side (ie. he kept his left eye closed, his left eyebrow showed no movement when compared to his right, the left side of his mouth turned down, which seemed to occur due to the "drooping" effect the left side of his cheek was producing.

hope that gives you at least some of the information you stated you were looking for in your last video."

  • What important lesson do I need to learn? To obey all authority? Don't speak up? Only speak when asked? WHAT?

  • Who says he is a criminal? This is a man who did nothing wrong. You, just like Burk, assume that this man is guilty of a crime. And him not showing "respect" has NOTHING to do with the ALLEGED offense he is going to court to fight. It's bull shit and anyone with a brain knows it.

And I didn't mean vengeance, I said Justice. Justice can be a synonym to consequences. Nice try...now go back to work at your Korean/Japanese CD store.

  • It would maybe help if you want to pay at being a reporter if you put out the truth.

First your activist was trying to piss off the judge. Second your activist was tried to piss off the cops. He got what he wanted. Then he was fighting the cops you could hear him ordering the cops not restrain him. The cops had very little choice but to up the force they used.

The cops order that pack spectators out because you started to advance on the cops.

  • You don't beat someone's neck.

It sounds more like he tripped and fell and injured himself. He wasn't doing so good at standing to begin with.

There's no proof that the police did more than pick him up and forcefully move him. Perhaps they did, but I don't think their decision to use the bare minimum amount of force was unwarranted.

  • If I would have been outside the door I would have demanded the door be opened.

  • I heard the screams on the video. I saw them carry him out on a gurney with a neck brace.

Looks to me like he was beaten pretty badly.

They HAD to pick him up and carry him out.

But they never had to strike him or push him down. This looks like police brutality to me.

  • we got to be like a pack of dogs taking down a large animal. everytime they focus on one of us the rest got to move in and bit them in the ass we are faster and smaller but we will take down these puppet masters as well as all there little Jack Boot sold out scum punk thugs.

  • Okay, and . . .?

  • Would be nice if they could squeeze in the Constitution their while up holding the LAW.

  • WRONG! pure2warrior:

    Not thugs, Jack Booted Thugs.

  • I have put up with your shit long enough.
