This video shows the assistance that Nooristan Foundation gave to impoverished refugee families living in a camp outside Kabul, Afghanistan.

The Nooristan Foundation (NF) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 1999. Its purpose is to provide support for charitable and educational projects in rural areas of Afghanistan. After beginning its activities in Nooristan Province, NF expanded and has provided assistance in other areas of Afghanistan, including Bamiyan, Takhar, Laghman and Kabul. NF believes that supporting development of rural areas of Afghanistan is a key to the countrys stability and global security.

Current projects include:

New Beginnings initiative to provide humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons at the Baghe Daoud camp outside of Kabul.

Midwife Training program to develop capacity of midwives in Takhar Province.

Pasigam Village School to establish a primary school for girls and boys in a remote area located in Nooristan Province.

NF is based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and has volunteer members in the United States and Afghanistan, who serve on action committees. NF utilizes a small number of paid staff in Afghanistan to implement and monitor projects. NFs model is to identify effective and trustworthy nonprofit organizations in Afghanistan to implement projects it has identified. In addition, NF undertakes direct implementation of projects depending on the objective.

For both categories, NF selects an independent monitor to assess the project, conduct due diligence on the ground, and to provide a report of the project. NF has also established cooperative relations with local shura (councils) over the years as it believes it is important for decision-making and buy-in to occur at local levels.

NF is an independent entity and does not have ties with any political parties within or outside the United States.
