Seventeen years ago today, during the Redskins last Super Bowl run, W*USA-TV sports anchor Glenn Brenner died of brain tumor. He had been off the air for months following a vascular event in his brain that occurred as he finished the 1991 Marine Corps Marathon. All of Washington, from the White House, to Congress, to the Redskins — who dedicated their NFC Championship to him, to even the down-and-out, mourned his passing.

  • I remember this tribute. Maybe because my mom watched WUSA9 when I was a child.

  • The only ones from that 1992 tribute that is still at WUSA 9 is weekend anchor Bruce Johnson, JC Hayward is now on at noon and Andrea Roane who is on the early morning newscast. Phyllis Armstrong is still a reporter. Glenn Brenner and George Michael were two of the best local sportscasters and are truly missed.

  • Oops.. I almost forgot

    Chris Gordon - 5pm anchor

    Andrea Roane - 12PM & 4PM anchor

    Phyllis Armstrong - morning anchor

Larry DuVall - executive sports producer

    Rick Armstrong - sports editor

    Ken Mease - 6PM & 11PM weekend sports director

    Vinnie Walter - sports producer

  • The people at WUSA-TV back in 1992 that tributed to Glenn Brenner were: Here were the people that worked there at the time. Gordon Peterson - 6PM & 11PM anchor Maureen Bunyan - 6PM & 11PM anchor Bruce Johnson - 6PM & 11PM weekend anchor J.C. Hayward - 5PM anchor Kevin Enright - sports producer Bob Strickland - 12PM anchor Grace Lee Nikkel - morning sports director James Brown - 5pm sports director Bruce Bookhultz - photographer Mike Buchanan - 4pm anchor
