Seventeen years ago today, during the Redskins last Super Bowl run, W*USA-TV sports anchor Glenn Brenner died of brain tumor. He had been off the air for months following a vascular event in his brain that occurred as he finished the 1991 Marine Corps Marathon. All of Washington, from the White House, to Congress, to the Redskins — who dedicated their NFC Championship to him, to even the down-and-out, mourned his passing.
I remember this tribute. Maybe because my mom watched WUSA9 when I was a child.

The only ones from that 1992 tribute that is still at WUSA 9 is weekend anchor Bruce Johnson, JC Hayward is now on at noon and Andrea Roane who is on the early morning newscast. Phyllis Armstrong is still a reporter. Glenn Brenner and George Michael were two of the best local sportscasters and are truly missed.
