If your thinking of upgrading to a zoom H4n this video might push you over the edge. I use my field recorder almost daily and my zoom H4 saw almost 2 years of constant use. I've sold my zoom h4 and replaced with this zoom H4N. I hope the H4N will prove to be just as handy on this next years video and music projects as the h4 was.

  • Cool video man, thanks for the info. I'm looking to get one of these to record my live stand up performances, it seems like it should do pretty good capturing the crowd and my voice. Any thoughts on if the DR-100 is good for that type of function or is the H4N the one to get?

  • @Dahgrostabphri The DR-100 doesn't have all the features that the Zoom h4n has, but the pre-amps are stronger on the XLR inputs. If you plan to use the on board mic, both the DR-100 and h4n are neck and neck.

Most people don't need the 4 track recording, effects, and usb audio interface that the Zoom h4n provides. If that's the Case you'll probably be happier with the DR-100.

  • Great video. Do you think for under $300 this is the best audio recorder you can get to accompany the 7D?

  • @DeANDRADEatUF It depends on what you need the zoom h4n has a lot of great features. You might also want to consider the Tascam DR-100 if you don't need all of the features but need more audio gain.

  • Since this has been out for over a year, its it worth getting? Are they going to upgrade it any time soon?

  • @JogBird Zoom has release a lot of firmware updates for the h4n that have added a number of features. I have no idea if they have a new unit in the works.

  • @Dahgrostabphri THE H4N is one to get - it just looks the bollocks

  • @lottevandenberg It comes with cubase LE

  • Answered almost all of my questions in one shot..Thanks!

  • If a shoot a movie with my Canon 5 D Mark II is the Zoom H4N enough or do I need other equipment. As I understand I could use real good Microphons with a big membran as it has phantom power.

  • does this come with cubase or any software like it? awesome by the way

  • Man seems like you have a video on everything I'm wanting to or about to buy. Glad you are putting in work so I know what to get and put in work too lol.

  • @onelonedork so as a usb interface you can record music into recording software ? I wouldn't use it for that but just curious.

  • the canon 550d does not have a xlr, what do i do than if i wanna use this?

  • thanks for the overview, will Zoom come up with new H4N soon? have you tried connect H4N to iPhone for stereo recording?

  • dou you think i can use this unit to record on location, as a shotgun Boom Mic?

    with proper wind protection?

and how do you think it will work when connecting a Rode Mic into it for the same purpose?

    thanks, very nice video!
