I don't agree, wimpie. I've been to the Netherlands and I've been to St. Maarten, the roads on the island are MUCH worse. The roads and signage on the French side (St. Martin) is much better than the Dutch side, but in general the conditon is much worse than anything you'd expect to see in the homeland countries. Once out of the tourist areas, St. Maarten/Martin is a poor place - still a fantastic island though.
Well, they look Dutch but their quality is indeed far below the standards of the motherland.
The only reason that the French par is better, is because it's directly part of the French republic and is without question French territory.
The Dutch part has some form of self-governance.

Sint Maarten is a Dutch island and the roads look exactly the same as they do in the motherland.
