A follow-up on my video about extraction orthodontics. I more in depth video about the side effects: face deformation, sleep apnea, TMJ. I really feel this industry needs to be regulated as orthodontic opinions vary dramatically.

  • I too had bad orthodontics and an extractione done.Im sorry I know how you feel tho.

  • @ChgoAnge1

Thanks for watching, I hope your doing well, Carrie

  • Hi Carrie. I also had premolar extraction (as a teen) and suffered the same negative facial effects as you have (although thankfully no sleep apnea or headaches so far). I really admire how brave you are for putting these videos up and I am considering doing something similar, to help more people. Anyway, one question: do you have any "pre-braces" photos or videos? I think that would be really effective in showing how extractions ruin facial aesthetics. Best wishes! Milly.

  • @millymillys

Hi Milly, I don't it's been 20 years, there are a few others on here that have the whole process up. However, TMJ doesn't usually take full effect until 5 or 10 years after treatment. I wish you the best, Carrie

  • Could all of this happen to me just because they pulled out 4 of my teeth? They pulled out two milk teeth and 2 permanent teeth I think.

Cause I could never imagine any of this could happen just because of that... Or have I misunderstood? I am 17 and I was 16 when I got the braces, if that makes any difference... This really scared me. They mentioned something about face change in the contract, but I never thought it could be anything like this...

I only had 2 years in the statute of limitations, and I was a minor. Everytime I told my family I just don't look right, they kept saying, it's all in your head. My TMJ didn't kick in for about 10 years. I real easy way to tell, is make sure you have 2 premolars upper and lower on either side, if you only have one it could be a problem, Carrie

  • Ever notice in interviews/stories about - Why people are afraid of going to the dentist they always ask a dentist or dental hygienist - but they NEVER INTERVIEW A PATIENT ESPECIALLY SOMEONE LIKE YOU???!!!!!!! When people say it's all in your head tell them UH YEAH the pain is in my mouth and THAT'S WHERE MY MOUTH IS!!!!!! KEEP UP THIS VIDEO!!!! FIGHT THE FRAUD!!!!!

  • I answered a question on an Irish message board from a guy about to get 4 teeth pulled and then braces. I said don't do it, get a second opinion. Then all the dentists on the board jumped on me very agressively, and said I didn't know what I was talking about, quoted studies saying the procedure was safe. It made me so angry and sad that young peope are trusting so called professionals who will end up potentially causing najor damage

  • @ccarrieb (continued) I would love to go after my first orthodontist but my mom didn't keep any of my paperwork. I agree that is only right for that doctor to pay for your current treatment. Dental work is expensive!! I understand what you are going through, and I truly hope things get better for you. I have cried so much over all of the pain and extra treatments and money that I have to spend to correct my jaw. I hope your video reaches a lot of people so that no one else gets TMJ from braces.

  • @ccarrieb Thank you so much for posting this video. I had 4 premolars extracted at age 14 with braces as well. 8 years later I started getting unexplained headaches, dizziness and pain in my jaw, neck and back. It took a year to find a doctor to get a TMJ diagnosis. I am now using a palatal expander which has changed the size of my arch back to the "outer track" size. I think it has given me more fullness in my face. Next step is braces. :(

  • @ccarrieb Okay, I think they only pulled out milk teeth in the upper jaw... I got to ask them about this. Just hope I can trust them.. O_o Maybe I'll have to ask someone else, then...

Btw, this might be a stupid question, but have you sued them? Or tried to?

  • @Pideli94

If you had 2 upper permenant pre molars pulled, yes there is a chance, please see the 1st video in my favorites, I would recommend getting an opinion at a functional orthodontist, best of luck, Carrie
