To those of you who are thinking of experimenting with this, I would advise against doing it frequently.
In fall 2010, I owned one of the rare raised key Speak & Spell units, which began emitting strange static sound effects, and eventually ceased to function, after performing this easter egg operation a bit too much.

I never owned a Speak and Spell but my best friend did. He recently told me that his unit would sometimes start behaving erraticly, even under normal circumstances, the unit would eventuall right itself and operate normally however. My friend also had a Talking Lesson One, as did I, and he recently also told me that if he was using his Talking Lesson One with an AC Adaptor and he accidently bunped the adaptor plug, the Talking Lesson One, would start acting strangely, as if the battery was low

"Spell quiet!"
"--QUIET!"
...I guess it doesn't want you to spell after all. XD;

Nope, read the video description - this behaviour isn't down to any loose connection!

Did you get this Speak & Spell from the USA.
BTW, I have a 1986 model, And I can do the same thing, if you press on & gom and, It even does it, with full charged batteries.

No, it was the model before they changed the voice to a British (cheesy) voice for the UK market. The UK model is newer and doesn't suffer from the same problem.
I just press GO and then press ON and GO quickly one after the other. You have to reset it by pressing the ON button.
It doesn't work on the Speak & Math that I have.
