A beautiful folk song from Malung, Dalarna. The first time i learned it was for the Swedish bagpipes. Later I got the lyrics to it. But it was not until Bingsjöstämman (fiddlers gathering in Bingsjö, Dalarna) when I heard the last verse from Per Gudmundson singing it like 3 in the morning. Needles to say my hair was standing up! So, I just had to sing it..... :)
The last verse is mirroring the singe of the times back in the beginning of the 1900s. The Fiddle music (folk fiddle music) became associated with the devil and was not "pure". Only the type of music that was played and sung in church was okay. Actually, a lot of fiddlers burned or buried there fiddles!!! They wanted to go the heaven! Unfortunately, lots of the Swedish folk music got lost back then when this happened. The people was afraid to even sing there old tunas and folk songs............

--------------
Two white doves ascended up to heaven
And when they returned they were friends of three
The first one was God himself, the second was his Son
The third one was a fiddler, I think he still is playing
That servant he was playing, he was playing so well
He played so long until God took his Soul
Now I'm throwing away my fiddle, now I can get happiness
Now I can follow the savior up to the heavens

  • Got anything on the didgery do?

  • Something new is coming with the Didg soon, I hope!....

  • most wonderful! I really like your voice^^

and now you got me wondering on which of my CDs I have that song... I gotta look 'em all up!

maybe it's Svanevit, or Faust? I don't know...

  • Thank you!

HaHaHa! I know there is a bagpipe version on one of Fausts records :)

That reminds me when I was playing folk music with two Germans(!). Me and my friend presented some cool tunes, but unfortunately one of guys had heard them on a CD/CDs). He said: can't we play something that is not on a CD? It took the rest of the day to explain that 99% of Swedish folk music that people play are recorded (solo/with a band). It's amazing how many Swedish folk music recordings that's been released!

  • and I'm surprised how many of your tunes I heard before. because I remember an evening in Skane when I wanted to join a session but all they played was stuff from southern Sweden and I only knew tunes from Dalsland at that time^^

  • Well I got to admit, I don't know too many southern tunes, my heart is more into the Dalarna region. At the Korrö festival for example, I did not recognize a lot of tunes people were playing. It was not until the last day/morning (around were I had my tent set up) that I found a group of people that was playing tunes from all over the place. Stuff I could tag along and play as well. That was a fun 2 hrs!
