Congressman Israel attended a hearing of the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Committee focused on Iraq reconstruction. They discussed a new GAO report on stabilizing and rebuilding Iraq. At the hearing, Israel questioned witness Joe Christoff, Director of International Affairs and Trade of United States Government Accountability Office (GAO). Israel asked Mr. Christoff why the US is spending $12 billion a month in Iraq, while countries that have pledged funds (such as Saudi Arabia) are failing to meet those committments or requiring that the funds come in the form of loans.
