All research conducted and video recorded/edited by Ryan M. Bolton, MSc.

Detailing mitigation work aimed at protecting turtle nests and increasing hatching success. This site experiences unnaturally high nest-predation rates due to subsidised predators. The work has been taking place annually since 2005. As a result, over 4,000 hatchling turtles have been released. Turtle species include Blanding's (Emydoidea blandingii), Northern Map (Graptemys geographica), Snapping (Chelydra serpentina), and Spiny Softshell (Apalone spinifera).

Funding for this conservation endeavour provided by Environment Canada, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, World Wildlife Fund Canada (http://wwf.ca/ ), and Wildlife Preservation Canada (http://www.wildlifepreservation.ca/ ).

  • is there a way i can donate?

  • @MyFishies Thanks very much for the kind gesture! Wildlife Preservation Canada (address in the description) is a major supporter of this work, and they are able to accept donations and issue receipts (and ensure that donations be allocated to specific projects such as this one). If anyone is interested and has the means to donate, please feel free to contact Elaine Williams at WPC.

    Thanks so much!

  • awesome job!

  • I love your videos. I have quite a bit to digest here. Beautiful work. It's incredible to see close up the work being done to help these guys survive. Hats off to you all.

  • Here in new brunswick we only have eastern painted turles

  • Awesome video, and excellent work, Ryan!

If anyone has seen a turtle in Ontario, you can report it to the Toronto Zoo's "Ontario Turtle Tally"

We share all our sightings with Ontario Nature, and the Ministry of Natural Resources. The reported sightings help biologists protect turtle populations in Ontario, and mitigate the threat of road mortality (which is right up there with predation and habitat loss as the top threats to turtles in ON!)

  • Wow. Aren't they unique? All I can say is, If you don't like Turtles, kick shells!

  • Just wonderful and amazing work by our Ontario neighbors!

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • i like this video

    congratulations!!!!

  • This is the best academic herp video I've ever seen! The sunset shots, ambient music, good resolution, and candid predation scenes kept me entranced. You should conduct workshops across the nation, teaching grad students to put stuff like this together. Nothing reaches people like video! (A video is worth a thousand pictures).
