Family: Baby Sitter's Acts Inconceivable

Clay County prosecutors said the charge against a Kansas City woman could be upgraded after the death of the 4-month-old boy she's accused of injuring.

Melissa Thompson, 36, already faced a felony child endangerment charge.

Police said the child, Jacob Mattingly, died Wednesday evening. The boy had been in critical condition at Children's Mercy Hospital since Monday.


Police said doctors told them the child suffered head trauma, hemorrhaging and facial bruising. Thompson had been watching the child at her home.
