Michael Thompson demonstrates a seed pod of the Tragopogon genus:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salsify
Mike has trimmed the umbrella of the pod to get enough forward motion in the pod's flight to fly it as a walkalong glider. Mike uses a chevron from 2 cuts to the edge of the umbrella of the seed pod. Would it work with just one cut, producing a straight edge?
