Nearly five years into Mexico's crackdown on drug cartels, drug trafficking appears to be increasing in several other countries to its south.

A history of civil strife, instability and corruption has made the region extremely vulnerable.

Marcelo Ebrard, the mayor of Mexico City, told Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman that the best way to address those problems is to focus more attention on the economy.

"To expand social opportunities, and economic growth, is the best way to fight against the drug cartels and the easy money," he said.

  • @zz773 so You say Legalizing drugs will boost the economy and end the terrorism against Mexico? orale!

If drugs are legalized in Mexico then black markets will arise in 3rd world banana republics like the lil islands in the caribbean and lil countries in central america. • @Ixpatli definitely a Global problem that the American mass media want to blame on Mexico

  • @davidzxc1 Thats why so many of our people move here to the north in search of that instead of in their home country. There so much I can say and tell you much of what I know is from reading and personal experiences. There is just so much shit going on, I love my people. I really would like for a non-violent revolution to occur in Mexico were we could become the prosperous nation, rich culture, history, life and many things. We need to change Mexican society and mindset to prosper.

  • @ImmortalTechHC How is a class suppose to represent the people of Mexico when they are not the people of Mexico? and feel more a connection to white europeans? I know my people and all of them want a better tomorrow they want to have security and a job, to work with dignity and honesty for their children and the future generations to come.

  • @davidzxc1 I am Mexican American (chicano) to, Pick up a history book and learn about Mexico and your peoples history. I did the problems in mexico have a lot to deal with past history and what mentality was left on the mexican people that was to be pass down to the future generations. The indigenous people of mexico are steeped upon by mexicans how can you call your self a mexican? (derive from the Mexica/aztecs) and do that? Most of the Mexican ruling class are of spanish decent or at lest 75%

  • @ImmortalTechHC Really?? everytime I watch the news about crime in mexico, the criminals don't look to european to me, Im mexican america and most of mis amigos de mexico tienen una mentalidad pobre, admiran a los narcos, creen k son mas poderosos que el ejercito de estados unidos, en vez de eso deberian estar en contra de ellos no crees?

  • @ThrowedNgone More pinchi bastard espaniards in the presidency of mexico. Estoda la pueta mierda of eurocentracism to much fucking eurocentric insanity in mexico. God dam spanish fucking implanted that insanity in our minds and the mexican people dont run this , but rather the spanish and their offspring who are the ruling class in mexico.
