Give me oil in my lamp
Keep me burnin', burnin', burnin'
Give me oil in my lamp, I pray
Give me oil in my lamp
Keep me burnin', burnin', burnin'
Keep me burnin' 'til the break of day

Sing oh sinner, sing oh sinner
Sing oh sinner to the king
Sing oh sinner, sing oh sinner
Sing oh sinner to the king

Give me oil in my lamp
Keep me burnin', burnin', burnin'
Give me oil in my lamp, I pray
Give me oil in my lamp
Keep me burnin', burnin', burnin'
Keep me burnin' 'til the break of day
Keep me burnin' 'til the break of day

  • Hello there,

Thank you for posting "Give me oil in my Lamp" by the Byrds. I haven't heard it in years.

I was trying to share your video with some friends,

but I must be pretty tired...because I wrote the note

that I wrote for them as a comment for your video :)

Could you *please* delete my comment?

    Thank you so much.

    Melody

  • Claire,This is such a wonderful version of this song. I thought you and Dan would enjoy it. Lots of love and warm hugs...Melody

  • I love to hear Clarence White's album version just so i can savor that soaring Telecaster with string bender. Sounds a bit like a pedal steel. This is a nice version too, maybe more traditional than the album version

  • First time I have heard this, and I must admit I came on youtube today looking for the Clarence White "heavy guitar" version. But this is a beautiful version.

Thanks again, I am going looking for Clarence's "heavy guitar" version now!

  • @racine09 You are correct sir! I, like you, prefer the "heavy" version on The Ballad of Easy Rider" L.P. Clarence, God Rest His Soul, was a picker extraordinaire! Plus, I enjoyed the line up of The Byrds that inncluded: Clarence, Gene Parsons and Eventually Skip Battin on bass, and of course Jolly Roger Mc!

  • I think the album version is great mainly because of Clarence White's powerful guitar fills

  • Never understood why this version wasn't placed on the Easy Rider album. Much more lively than the cut used. Album track is ok, but this one is superior.

  • Really liked the Easy Rider version, but this has such a nice groove. Thanks for raising my consciousness regarding this matter.
