We've had a mouse problem in our office for awhile. We've tried to catch them before but had little luck. In February BoingBoing.net linked to a blog post about making a mouse trap out of a cardboard tube. This is the result of that. We've caught 5 mice so far using this method.

  • Its probably the same mouse caught 5 times.

  • That is cruel to trees. Cardboard is made from wood fiber, so why is it OK to kill trees and not mice?

  • Tried this last night. This morning the Tube and some droppings were in the bin but no mouse. Either it flew out or they can climb smooth walls?? I'd prefer not to kill them but I can't keep waking up to droppings all over the kitchen work surfaces!

  • gravity takes his course

  • I'm surprised the mouse wasn't able to jump out of the trash can.

  • Go suck your mom's dick.

  • you should kill it

  • Shorter tubes do work, I caught them with the short tubes.

  • i say FAIL

  • Longer tubes work better, since the centre of mass of the mouse must be considerably farther forward of the pivot point in order to reach the bait than with shorter tubes. Note that this mouse was able to keep his centre of mass behind the pivot point, yet still reach the bait. Also, longer tubes are easier to balance 'just so' on the counter.
