Wow, it's amazing how he slips two jabs like he's doing mitt work in the gym, and then fires off that right hand. Straight as a mofo-ing arrow...

When I think about who was the most COMPLETE boxer of all time, in the sense of being able to switch defence and attack, having genuine knockout power in both fists, being able to fight off both the front and back foot, having the ability to work behind the jab, owning a great chin and applying subtle pressure without getting wreckles, four men come to mind; Ray Robinson, Eder Jofre, Ezzard Charles and this man, Alexis Arguello. What a magnificent boxer, a true artist.

@iljn1988 Joe Louis belongs on that list. Stylistically Arguello and Louis are very similar, both boxer-punchers with flawless fundamentals (hands up, chin down), applying sublte pressure while taking apart various styles and ko power in either hand. See my video on the subtle skills of Joe Louis.

@coxscorner Well said. I agree, stylistically both men were very similar indeed. Job well done on the Joe Louis video you put together. Keep 'em coming. Cheers.

Kevin Rooney's from my home town, Staten island, NY. He doesn't do too well here, but I give him credit for getting far enough in his career to merit a match with a fighter of the stature of Alexis Arguello. Staten Island isn't exactly a fertile ground for boxing legends. Wonder what it feels like to get hit with a shot like that. Only boxers and hockey players know from personal experience.

@RRaquello I agree, except from the hockey player perspective. Hockey players do indeed beat the hell out of each. Much respect but a pro boxer is at a totally different skill level.
