why is it called 'death grip'?

Please feel free to show others how to use the hitch. It may save a boat, or a life.

A very impressive hitch that performed flawlessly for me. Thank you for sharing it.

for the exsample that he is giving this under no a prussik would just slip and a constrictor knot would gve you alot lower amount of weight you could hold before the knot breaks the rope. This is the nex best thing to a tensionless hitch.

Lots of wraps...would not a simple "Prussik knot" work? Or how about the Constrictor knot?

Because of the way the hitch wraps around what it is secured to; like fingers on a hand trying to save the rest of the body. The more desperate the situation, the tigher it grips.

Try those knot's on a painted dowel, or a metal pipe under "line breaking" loads and let me know what you found.
