did you have problems with the ball cracking where you put the pipe in? I drilled it and then scewed it in and now it cracks pretty easily where the pipe goes into the ball. Any advise?
Thanks

where can you get steel shot?

why not? it should work, I use a sledgehammer.
The only thing is that the handle is a bit shorter and you have to watch out for the hammer head because it's not round, other than that it works just fine ( my opinion )

Good job!

Can I do the same with a sledgehammer?

I built a similar one last year, I'll post videos when I get a better camera.

I did the same thing. I would put a steel pipe in a basket ball full of wet cement and place it in a half dug out ball shape hole to preserve its shape as best I could. It worked pretty well. I am glad I have the manufactured macebells now. I had some interesting experiences when the cement ball came loose for the pipe.
How were you able to get the steel pipe to successfully fit and stay in the bowling ball?

@Sorefootjordan I drilled a hole through the bowling ball and pounded in solid steel handle. You may be able to find pipe close to one of the finger, thumb hole size and use some kind of epoxy or jb weld then pound in pipe.

You can, it is a bit more cumbersome and be very careful not to get caught in the backside.
