http://AussieBee.com.au These furry brown native bees are common garden visitors. Easily spotted by their noisy buzz, teddy bear bees are gentle natured solitary bees that nest in burrows in the ground.
This species (Amegilla bombiformis) may be seen in Sydney in the Royal Botanic Gardens or around the Domain when vines of guinea flower (Hibbertia scandens) are in full bloom. Females come only to this yellow flower for pollen (they don't secrete nectar). Check out ;age 3 of May Gibbs's "Nuttybub and Nittersing" (colored edition) to see illustration of Teddy bear bees visiting gumnut flowers.
