  • Any idea what quartz movement the Terra uses?

Moreso, why does Suunto not indicate what quartz movements it integrates into their wrist instruments?

I've searched the web in vain for information on the source of their quartz movements.

Without information I'm thinking Malaysian quartz or then Japanese.

Swiss quartz? At their prices, and without their specific mention of used movements, I doubt it.

Unless someone can provide info otherwise!

  • @NiallatUTube I would guess some type of Asian construction for the quartz movements unless Suunto suggests otherwise. Aside from a few Swiss companies most quartz movements are made in Asia - and if Suunto was using Swiss stuff they would likely advertise it.

  • Well done on pronouncing the name Suunto - many media reviewers can't pronouce it correctly.

Suunto is the Finnish word for Direction, something reviewers never seem to mention.

  • @NiallatUTube Oh good. So other people butcher the name?

  • Hey there, Glad you like the watch. I would recommend you Google the name of the watch regularly to check which retailers get it that can send it to the UK. You should probably be able to find one relatively quickly. The watch is still very new, and not in many stores.

  • I don't get why Suunto doesn't make some of the pieces, especially their high end ones such as this, solar or kinetic. Rado has kinetic, Ventura has kinetic digitals, Seiko has solar power, even my 80 dollar Casio G Shock I use for working out has solar technology that has kept it running strong for 5 years so far w no sign of stopping anytime soon. I like everything about this but 900+ for a battery operated digital?

  • Wayyy overpriced

  • @aBlogtoRead yes, like with short U as in "Sunto" or short U and long O as in "Suntoo".

Btw I asked Suunto about the origin and calibre of their quartz movements. Practically all watch manufs state that info on their spec sheet. Response from Suunto? We don't divulge that information!

  • @aBlogtoRead, well, I've heard another reviewer in YouTube not pronouncing the double-U and calling it "Sunto".

  • For me, the saphire anti-reflective lens is very important, and the 10 bar WR.

Also a definite plus is the traditional lugs that allows users to change to whatever strap or bracelet they like, something Suunto should do for all of the watches in fact, because I loathe integrated proprietary straps and bracelets which kills user-choice.
