This product has been DISCONTINUED.

Once a common sight in cities across North America, these elevated crossing towers allowed the watchmen to see up and down a length of track. When a train was spotted, crossing gates would be manually activated from within the tower. A single tower would typically control a series of crossing gates, usually covering several city blocks. This tower was modeled from an image on page 113 of Ian Wilson's book "Steam through London" published by Canadian Branchline Miniatures. Here is a large view of the prototype used for this kit.

This beautiful laser cut micro plywood kit is a faithful reproduction of one of these towers, right down to the hardwood floor and wainscoting! The roof is removable to expose the interior, complete with pot belly stove and desktop, a sharp eye might even spot a mouse hole¦.

Meticulously designed by Tim Warris using sophisticated, parametrically driven 3D CAD software, each part of this kit will fit precisely. Tabs are used where necessary to aid in aligning parts, and a jig is included to help assemble the back steps. The multi-layer method of design makes finishing the model in contrasting colors a snap, just paint each layer in a different color and when it is assembled, sharp, clean edges are created.

Several detailed exploded views and images are provided on a CD that is included with each kit.

  • How do I reach you to obtain one of these kits and have some conversation about your work? I'm modelling Ingersoll 1957 to 1967 and my grandfather was one of the watchmen that operated the crossing gates at that location, although the bottom of the tower was different.
