@astrogeek15 Thanks so much...you really do get attached to their personalities. 8>
We got three more Silkies (Molly, Mildred & Myrtle) and sadly the hawk struck again Christmas week, taking Molly. =(

@astrogeek15 That's about the same time I've been doing it...Both Fanny & Penelope (the Silkies) purr like mad. Usually, when they're broody, they'll sit in the coop and purr, purr, purr. Sometimes they make a terrible screeching sound when you open to coop door, like they think your about to do something horrible to them when broody. lol I've got tons of vids, I never bothered to post of the girls...maybe I'll put a few more on to show some more of their other antics.

@Verbruggen1777 I had a quick question also... I've been raising chickens for about 3 years now, and I heard my silkie purr today... I've heard her purr before but this time it was really high pitched... I don't know whether she was mad, or ecstatic

@astrogeek15 Thanks Astro' ...Seems like it's been a lot longer than a year. You get so attached to them & I still miss her. Out of four, we're down to one. =( Maybe some new peeps this Spring to keep Penelope company.

RIP Fanny Hen...devoured Christmas Day '09 by something larger than she! She will be missed around the coop! =(

My silky was a partridge color like Fanny and she acted exactly the same! She was always brooding, even in the middle of winter with a foot of snow on the ground! We would have to bring her food and constantly take the eggs from under her. She was so bad, we gave up and let her sit on some eggs in August (not expecting them to hatch) well she proved us wrong and hatched three little chicks. Then we had to take her inside of the house for two months until the babies had their adult feathers.

Haha...is she were, she wouldn't have to go out Friday nights for a rooster friend. lol Joking...
Nope, she laid for several months and is back to just being broody. After Henrietta lays one, Fanny will slide right over and sit on that all day, or until I go out and gather it up. =)
i just hatched out 6 pure black silkies and 2 silkie cross with blue wydotte, Heh i was soo lucky my black silkie hen went broody one week before the hatch which surprized us heh ( perfect timing) put six babies under and and thier doing great, 9 days old atm :D. btw my silkie hen went broody in the winter with almost 2 feet of snow in -10 weather and hes only 8 months heh Silkies are amazing :D only if i could get my hands on some other colors XD

@siruspool I love Silkies, but no Chicken has been as wonderful as my Barred Rock, Henrietta...she was something else and the queen of the scratch patch. haha
