Salutation March-Climax Jazz Band 1978
This was the third year that our Climax Jazz Band was asked to participate in William C. Cooke's "Peter Appleyard presents" series. Each of these years some 20 shows were taped featuring vibraphone star Peter Appleyard who would play but also feature our local Toronto jazz bands together with famous international jazz stars.
As a first tune in this show we play a tune I learned from records of the early Chis Barber Band. It would often be an opening tune during many of our public concerts.
In our band, now for a few years already we had the incredible Jim Buchmann on reeds, Geoff Holmes trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Chris Daniels bass, Max Littlejohns on drums and yours truly, Bob Erwig playing his Getzen cornet. Peter Appleyard who made his fame with Benny Goodman fits right in with a creative solo.
Great! really great!
I notice your notes make a reference to the Chris Barber band. I love his early work, and I attended a concert he gave in Glasgow about three years ago. He is showing his age a little now, but he is still as bouncy as ever he was.
I look forward to viewing your postings. If this one is anything to go by, I will not be disappointed!
