Borman was by this time a Presidential special assistant for space flight. That's why Nixon brought him along.

@likealaff They probably were so damned happy to just be alive. Just think of all the things that could've gone wrong--Armstrong and Aldrin could've been stranded on the moon, they could've burned up during reentry, they could've blown up on the launch pad.....I think they were probably relieved and happy that the mission was a success.

Hey, hey we're the Monkees......people say we monkey around.Just look at those faces. All bright-eyed and bushy tails. They have not washed or shaved in over a week , ! I guess it must be that healthy American diet, burgers, fries and a coke.

So, here's another riddle Batman...these guys are are covered from head to toe in protective suits, gloves, hoods and respirators. So, what's with the guy in the orange suit ( @ 0;30 ) who has NO protection at all ????

So, these guys have just been banged up in a tin can for 8 days and nights, encased in a radiation - proof space suit, sweating like pigs, unable to wash, have slept only a few hours, breathing re-claimed air, eating processed food , peeing in a tube, and carrying around a sack of their own sh*t, and they are acting like this !!

4:50 "we're a lot younger than Frank Borman".....classic Mike Collins. His book "Carrying the Fire" is the best book by any of the astronauts.

No, he's in San Antonio. Makes a great burrito
Remember vividly watching this as a young boy -- albeit on a black-and-white set.
One thing my young mind couldn't grasp was the idea of the quarantine -- why the astronauts had to wear those funny suits and had to sit in that funny thing that looked like a trailer.
Had watched the landing itself sitting on the lap of my great-grandfather, who was a Navy sailor during World War I.
A wonderful memory. Thanks for preserving this and posting it.
