http://LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com/blog blogger Jimmy Moore and his wife Christine heard about the new "Double Down" sandwich from KFC featuring two chicken breasts, bacon, cheese, and a secret sauce and wanted to see what all the fuss was about in the latest installment of their popular "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb on YouTube" series.

In Episode 88, Jimmy shares the nutritional info on the "Double Down" sandwich, explains why it's not something a low-carb dieter wants to be eating everyday, the reason this isn't necessarily the best option for people following a low-carb diet, why the high-salt content of this sandwich is really no big deal, and their first-hand experience trying the "Double Down" sandwich (Christine had the breaded one, Jimmy consumed the grilled version) for the first time on camera.

  • I eat high-fat, moderate protein, low-carb--that makes me healthy.

  • @berto649 ????

  • @livinlowcarbman Shhhh Jimmie! we have a "saturated fat is bad" believer in the house.

  • @kcfreeloader LOL!

  • Hey Jim, what are some consequences to not having a 3:1 fat to protien ration in your diet. I think Im more of a 1:1 possibly favoring a little more on the protien side. I was just wondering how it could hurt. I live in a college dorm and do my own cooking. I have alot of chicken breast, and red meat (along with veggies) but i still can see that the fat never is more than the protein content.

  • @rsbutz1 It's not so much anything that will "hurt" you as much as it is that a low-carb diet is meant to be high in fat for your fuel source and not protein. Protein gets converted into glucose by the liver because of something called gluconeogenesis (we did a video on this--do a search of that term with "low-carb" and you'll find it here on YouTube). Eating fattier cuts of meat or adding fat to low-fat meats like chicken and turkey is essential to getting this ratio to the right level. :)
