I never got to meet my grandparents because this tornado took them from me. They were missionaries there, helping the people of Saragosa. And I have them to thank for me being here today, because my mom was coming down to visit them, and she would've been there through the tornado too, had my grandparents not asked her to stay at college for just a few more days before coming down. Still a tragedy and a shame I never got to meet the people responsible for me and my mom being alive today. <3
With 30 fatalities, the Saragosa tornado was the deadliest storm in the United States during the 1980s and was the deadliest storm in Texas and in the US since the Wichita Falls tornado in 1979
I remember when this happen. I lived in Odessa just up the road by almost a couple hours away. i was in about the 2nd or 3rd grade around this time of this tornado that hit Saragosa. i remember 2 days after it happen my family and i took a trip over there and it was distruction like you wouldnt think of. it pretty much wiped this town clear off the map. there was like 2 or 3 homes that was left. its sad. dont seem like its been 25 yrs since it happen.
What's sad is even today if you drive through that area you can still see damage from the storm.
