You measure temperature with a thermometer, you measure atmospheric pressure with a barometer, what do you measure radiation with?... How about a tin can and foil?

This video shows how to build a radiation meter from a tin can using the 1979 Oak Ridge National Laboratory design for a Kearny Fallout Meter (KFM)

This adaption is strictly non-commercial, parent/student-based effort.

The thought was this would be particularly useful for families in Japan, after the recent disasters, and also might be of interest to students in other countries that have been reading recent news coverage on radiation.

The meters can be built by a middle school or up student (elementary school may need some help with knot tying) with commonly available household materials.
