I am gradually sorting through some of my ancient video tapes to log what is on them, and capturing some vintage clips whilst I do so.

Here is one of Channel 5's great late night/early morning run of 'Prisoner: Cell Block H'. The closing commentaries, usually by senior announcer Bill Buckley, began in the early-mid 100 episodes, and by the show's "golden era" (1981-83ish period) had grown into their own entity, featuring trivia 'snippets', comments on characters and settings, jokes, and many varied Prisoner related topics sent in by fans. This particular one is one of Bill's worst ever jokes (using "joke" in it's loosest form).

This example is from episode 203, I *think*, broadcast February 7th 1998 (need confirmation). It is during one of my favourite plots from the show, when Bea is caught in a road accident and suffers amnesia, not understanding why she is in prison.

(Also, note that as with all UK broadcasts of the show, the sponsor during the end credits is edited out).

More classic Prisoner commentaries as I unearth them.
I am still going through all of my old tapes and uploading various clips, so check back regularly!

  • Me and my mum used to laugh our heads off at Bill Buckley. However it was annoying when he talked over the credits of nearly EVERY episode...Granada was my ITV region and they showed every episode. I stopped watching Prisoner on Channel Five after Bea and Lizzie left as the series went downhill, and it was only in 1995 that Granada completed its run.

  • I missed the whole run on Channel 5 because our area has never had channel 5 terrestrial haha Last time I saw Prisoner on TV was in the early 90s when ITV showed it then stopped showing it before the end...grrr haha

  • Classic Prisoner Clips
