I get messages all the time asking for something a little more basic. You can't get much more basic than this. John Mellencamp and Tom Petty are proof positive that you don't need to write complicated music to make great music. I'll be posting more Mellencamp in the next couple of weeks.

If you tuned into this channel expecting me to devote my time to one genre of music, you will be sorely disappointed. I grew up listening to and enjoying everything from bubblegum music to heavy metal. Everything from ABBA to Zeppelin. My musical tastes have not changed, only the body has gotten older. It is beyond me that some people just can't comprehend that. As Sly Stone would say, "Different Strokes for different folks". My recommendation? Hit the "Unsubscribe" button and check back periodically to see if there is something you're interested in.

Have a great and safe holiday season! Sam

  • Can't find your "Life is a Highway" cover mentioned below on your channel or on YouTube search. Is it still up? Thanks for the help! (and great guitar channel in general - awesome work)

  • @efc991 - I have 183 videos uploaded to YouTube. 83 of them are set to 'Private', "Life Is a Highway" is one of them.

  • What thickness picks do you use?

  • @7isunlucky - I've used Fender Mediums all my life but recently switched to a 1mm Dunlop pick. It's thicker than a medium but I love the grip that is built into them.

  • You are very inspiring Sam! I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar, and I have watched everyone of your videos, each one is great! I'm glad I found you on here. All I have is a Dobro, and its pretty hard on my fingers, but i'm determined. I'm pretty much a beginner and the strum pattern is kinda tuff to learn for me on just about everthing, but anyway, i very much look forward to more of your videos, they are great!!!!!!

  • @cavykahn - Glad to hear it. I'm minutes away from uploading my newest video - stick around!
