  • Dude it's 16-17 years old it's not going to last forever. it's not a old school game boy after all !

  • Well yeah, I still want to fix it though!

Yeah, and those things were made out of cement!

  • i got a nomad off ebay, the sound didnt work so i did what u did, i fixed the sound upon putting it back toghter i totally broke the contrast button the circuit board, black screen n 4 hrs ltr i put a piece of tin foil on the metal prongs where the button used to be, works great . with old age the contrast like a reostat gets coroded along the metal strip first squirt a little wd 40 or pb blastr , put metal on prongs to testy ahh just break it n get a hacked psp

  • Yeah, I'm definately not going to try to fix it.

  • It could just be a short, no way to really be sure, I was going to donate my extra game gear to CGR but the damn thing wouldn't work right. It DID work, but you'd have to be level with the stupid thing to see anything, no contrast adjusting fixed this, and the sound only played on headphones. My guess would be mine was shorted out as I got it from ebay.

  • I'm surprised the speaker in mine still works either, the wires seem really flimsy. And after a while my screen does the same thing. I'll probably just end up getting another one.

  • i dont know if youre still wondering but this is a defective glass mount

  • Hey guys im having the same problem but not so severe! I already replaced the capacitors but im not sure whats wrong. It turns on and plays fine except for those ghost lines. Could it be that a capacitor came lose because it was my first time soldering and it was a bit shakey?

  • Just search youtube for "2 bit gaming game gear" or "game gear screen fix" 2 bit has the best videos but you will find the capacitor solution for sure if you search. That is if you haven't thrown the thing away by now haha. But really its only about an hour and a half fix and its worth it.

  • It is more than likely the capacitors. It looks as if you might have dropped yours or something though. If there were no serious jars to the system I would suspect any of the 12 capacitors on the the board that you see when the unit is opened screen facing down. I just replaced all of mine today. It only cost me 7 bucks, and works great now. There is a history of horrible capacitors on these. I hope you know how to solder though, haha. There are video tutorials on youtube. Good luck keep it goin

  • Hi! Nice vid. I'm interested in repairing/customising my Game Gears. Can you please tell me the size of the LED next to the screen, and if possible its characteristics...

  • Amiga?

  • The magic night rayearth gamegear is actually made differently, Its screen can go brighter than the others, its sound is so much louder than any others I've know, its d-pad is higher out and I've head butted that thing so hard once and it still works amazing, the other gamegears would have been so so dead! as I've just punched them once and they have died (I was a angry gamegear child) But I mean I headbutted the rayearth when I was 23 and it went funny coloured then slowly went back to normal.

  • too late.
