Sylvia Sykes & hat-stealing Nick Williams show how it's done in a fantastic freestyle balboa demonstration at Gloucester's Jumpin' At The Woodside, May 2008. Colour not properly balanced, hence strange hue!

  • Sylvia is still teaching a great Balboa class in Santa Barbara at the wonderful Santa Barbara Rec Center ballroom. Beginners can blend with "pros" in a friendly environment.

  • Was that Steven Mitchell he took the hat from? I miss all those Pasadena and Santa Barbara teachers in Cali. Seatle is a virtual wasteland-Lindy-wise. :( Jonathan and Sylvia were the best!

  • WOW. Talk about listening. ;Listening to the music, to your partner, to the dance! Fantastic!

  • Thank you very much.....and incredible timing as I've just got back from a Bal weekend where Sylvia was teaching........ fabulously.

  • This is Jamaica Jam by Teddy Powell, it's on 'Anthology of Big Band Swing (1930-1955)' - it's on Amazon but a bit pricey - try Emusic, lots of classics on there.

  • Ah, now I see the confusion. This video was filmed at an annual lindy hop event in Gloucester called Jumpin' At The Woodside, after the famous Count Basie tune. The music heard in the video is not Jumpin' At The Woodside. The search continues...

  • you have the title right, it's Jumpin' At The Woodside, although it sounds a bit different than some of the other versions I've heard.

  • Many thanks for that - do you know the title?

  • It is Count Basie.

They also used to use a variation of this song for Gene, Gene the dancing machine on The Gong Show?
