Chiapas, Mexico - Choir in a Catholic Chapel of San Pedro Chenalhó

On Ash Wednesday, 2009, Flor de Margarita Pérez Pérez, daughter, Claudia, and neice, Juana Maria, sang La Guadalupana, a hymn in praise of the Virgin of Gaudalupe, at their local Catholic chapel in Chenalhó, Chiapas. The women sing, pray, study the Bible, and protest injustices as part of their understanding that to be Catholic is to stand up for social justice. Soon after this service, Margarita invited her fellow parishioners to come to the chapel to pray for Barack Obama, to ask God to strengthen him in his efforts to bring peace and justice to the world.
