This is the Westside Church of Christ singing Hymns of praise to Jesus Christ our savior. We are located at
1705 Starview Dr
Salem, VA 24153

Our website http://www.westsidecofc-salem.com/

Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19).

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16).

Why do some churches teach that it is wrong to use musical instruments to accompany our singing during Christian worship assemblies when the above verses don't precisely forbid it?

I think most will agree that God has specifically instructed (even "commanded") Christians to sing as part of the worship that He expects (even "demands"). Since He has not commanded nor even suggested to us to play musical instruments in worship, we can be absolutely certain that if we don't use musical instruments, then He will be pleased with Christians singing if their worship comes from the heart.

  • Classic Church of Christ singing: no joy, no heart. Going through the motions. God does not approve.

  • @saxysai That's quite a talent you have. Reading the hearts of people.

  • @church0fchrist Sorry if the truth hurts. You can't tell me you feel joy in church. You can't tell me you feel powerful in church. YOu can't tell me you feel the spirit when you sing like this.

  • @saxysai It's not the truth. I can tell you we feel joy. Joy to sing praises to our God the way God commands. I can tell you we feel power. The power of God is evident everywhere. I can tell you we feel the spirit. We are worshiping God as God has prescribed. It is encouraging to sing with our Christian family. We love God. We love each other. We are grateful for his boundless blessings.

  • @saxysai I see another person 'knowing' what God feels. It must be nice to know the workings of God's mind.

  • @Saxsai --Only a wolf in sheeps clothing would say that God does not approve. He knows your heart and not the other way around. They obviously have more joy, more heart and all the right emotions to show themselves approved.

  • @saxysai Who are you to decide what God approves of? If you don't enjoy listening to this, then go find a video with your approval. God is everywhere, and just because people don't all worhip the same way that your believe, doesn't mean that he does not approve.

  • @saxysai

    God looks at the heart.

I grew up in a Church of Christ and LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE singing a cappella hymns!! They touch me very deeply--many times the old hymns have much more depth in the lyrics than contemporary Christian worship songs. But I love contemporary Christian songs as well!! Anyways, I find it sad that we as the church fight over song style. It divides the church and it should not divide the church at all. I love singing praise to God!! Period.

  • @saxysai I am sorry that you did not feel joy at your congregation. I hope, though, that you still consider your self a part of the church of Christ, for the church of Christ is the only body of Christ. it is not a denomination. It is not a sect. It is His body.

I do not express hate towards you, but I do not appreciate how you were hateful to this group of people who came together to worship Jehovah their God. I indeed do not know you, but I know you are not God and do not know if He approved

  • @BCWATCHMAN I'm not lonely, and I don't claim to be God. But I know that I am saved because God loves me even though I am not perfect. I am saved by grace, and feel more joy now than I ever did in the COC. I have no desire to attend the COC ever again because of this kind of behavior. You do not know me, and you are being hateful. I am a very happy Christian.

  • @saxysai how lonely you must be on your pillar so high up there. I bet you can see God from up there too. He's probably right below you. Do not claim to even have the ability to discern the hearts and intents of the hearts of so many people. Further, do not even DARE to claim to have the ability to speak for God on what he does and does not approve of outside of His Word. I call for you to do some soul searching and reading of His Word to understand what you have just said.

  • @church0fchrist the praises of God need not be in any pleasant tune or melody. The praise of Jehovah the I AM resides in the focus of one's heart and the determination to shout joyfully for His glory. Well done, brothers.

  • looks likke mii churchh:)
