Day trip from KL to Melaka (Malacca)
For most of 2010, the Puduraya bus station moved to National Stadium car park at Bukit Jalil while the Puduraya bus station underwent repairs and renovations. Puduraya closed in April 2010 for an estimated 4 months!!
Bukit Jalil is easily reached by the LRT, only 5 minutes walk from the train station (LRT). The Bus Companies have booths inside a large tent with young men trying to steer you toward their company to buy your ticket.
I went to Bukit Jalil the day before to book my KL to Melaka return ticket with Transnational. The one way fare cost 12.50 MYR. The bus was very comfortable and left right on time.
At Melaka Sentral, there is a No 17 Town Bus Service that costs 1 MYR to downtown and stops right in the old centre -- just ask for Jalan Merdeka.
Melaka is famous for Hiananese Chicken served with rice balls and the Chop Chung Wah Restoran has an excellent example. It is located just across the river from the Clock Tower and is open for lunch only. A plate of chicken and rice balls cost 8 MYR and was good enough to justify seconds.
The other highlight was the Baba and Nonya Heritage Museum which opens on demand and cost 8 MYR for a guided tour that takes about 40 minutes
Melaka is easy to walk around & the narrow streets & old buildings quite interesting. A day trip from KL was a bit rushed so I'd suggest an overnight stay as a better option.
