I decided to build an e-bike in Fall 2009, for commuting and for general fun riding. I decided on a kit from a small family company (AmpedBikes.com) based on specification, price and good reviews. It lived up to the reviews and has covered over 500 miles without any problems to date, on and off road.
The company is running a competition to make a promotional home video, and this is my competition entry. The prize is a complete kit. Excuse the blatant advertising - that's for the competition - but I really do love this tough little e-bike and use it all the time. Not one breakdown, not even a puncture to date!

  • It seems pretty waterproof as far as the motor (that has been wet a good few times) and thumb throttle. I'm not sure about the controller, as mine is in a sheltered place protected from most moisture - but it has been superficially wet a few times without damaging it.

  • Front wheel is much easier to install (no chain/gearset etc) and puts the weight to the front of the bike balancing the battery weight at the rear better. However, there are more cables running visibly the length of the frame when you are done.

  • This is a great e-bike video clip. You've really put this together well.

  • @desvejk Thank you!

  • What model is the motor and what battery type

  • Great video! I am looking for a conversion kit and i was wondering how waterproof is it? Im located in the northern bay area in california and in the winter we tend to get a lot of rain. How does it hold up against the rain?

  • Now what difference does it make if you get a front wheel kit or a back wheel kit?

  • Well done. Good informative video.

  • I have decided.

    I'm getting this.

  • I dont understand what the "torque arm" is/does.

  • I just found your vid I have an amped rear geared kit and just orderd the ping 36 volt 10 am what kid of mileage do you get I am hopeing to get more then my 12amped slas gave me.

  • This a very good video and a great advert for commuting by e-bike, although I think it would look a little different if you had filmed it here in (not so sunny) Manchester England. I used to commute to and from work, (12 mile round trip) in the mid 1990s when I was in my late 30s but it would be a little bit too much now in my early 50s (with a bad back), but with an E-bike it may be an option again. Thank you for the inspiration.
