This song always brings tears to my eyes, but only Roy's version.

@MrGermanyjon I have been listening to this song since I was a small child,my father ,may he rest in peace ,had me listen to it.Roy Clarke was a great talent written off as some kind of clown,a very talented man,who was thrown away by the music establishment,a damned shame.

While at clark air force base he performed for us at the nco club he stayed on stage more than an hour extra most us were on our way to viet nam i will never forget that and he also a great singer. JB

Listen to the words in this song and then listen to the words in Bonnie Tylers cover of "The Rose"; the stark contrast of lyrics tells me that man is unfulfilled no matter what he does or does not do.

My dad wants me to play this at his funeral

@1950oldman1 I think there's no person over 50 that this song doesn't apply to. We all have regrets, I know I do. This is my favourite song and I cry every time I hear it.

such a haunting and truthful song.........to remind us of our lives past....but fear not age......one is only old, when one's regrets begin to take the place of one's dreams.
