Because he has charm and talent recognized worldwide. Hey, no performer stays at peak popularity, even Elvis really didn't. (I don't even want to get into the guy's looks and physique!!) You as a straight man may not be interested in his personal life, but he is a role model, to some extent, for many, esp. gay Latinos who haven't so many in stock. Everything is complex, don't look askance at people making money when and where they can. At least he gives people joy.
