Absolutely. The USSR raped the Eastern Zone for many years. But after awhile they realized that it wasn't doing them any good because at the end of the day, they were responsible from that area So they needed to stop dismantling everything.

i think you'll find that the soviet union took a lot OUT of the gdr.
but you are right,the said that by 1992 if the gdr existed there would have been an economic crisis.

Oh yes, and all of that is worth living in a police state which shot anyone who tried to escape? I think not. The GDR only survived as long as it did because the Soviet Union supported it. Once the Soviet Union stopped doing that, it was only a matter of time before it fell.

unemployment in eastern germany is rife and those people want communism back free health care guaranteed job for life-workers were unsackable guaranteed house 7000 gdr mark no interest loan for married couples basic food frozen at 1938 price levels AIDS virtually non existent some of the highest literacy rates in the world. a surplus of technical and scientific personnel if the stazi had have been used for anti-terrorism purposes only,the gdr may even still exist. the gdr almost got it right.

Another bitter commie, crying over the failed state of East Germany! The people have spoken and they have made it clear that they do not want communism back! If they want it back, then let them vote the communist back office. That of course would be the LAST vote they cast because communist do not believe in chioce and Freedom, and thats why the East German Government is gone, along with their Soviet overlords! God Bless the Federal Republic of Germany!
