Back in the mid 1970's, when I was a young man and first studying history I read a book about the siege of Leningrad. It touched me deeply and still does to this day. What those people had to suffer is unimaginable here in the USA. They are strong, good people.

I've always partially blamed Stalin for their tribulations. Stalin had too much of his focus on Moscow, Stalingrad and the Caucuses. The North seemed kind of forgotten. Had I been trapped at Leningrad I would have felt betrayed.
